As the writer, it's difficult for you to discern what's REALLY central to your book and what isn't. Or maybe they even better the book, but it'd make your life easier to cut them and have a shorter manuscript. Maybe you have some scenes you adore, but simply don't better the book. Maybe you repeat the same concepts more than once to make them stick, but the readers don't need that. Some stuff might FEEL necessary to you, but it actually isn't to the reader. Since when is a multi-pov fantasy too long at 120k words? NOPE. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. My first book was 120k and the very thorough editor cost me $1300.00 I suggest Deranged Doctor Design (who I use) or Miblart, but there are others. What do you need to be a successful indie writer? You'll need money up front, money for a professional cover. Who really counts when you self-publish? Your readers. I have two books out in less than a year, both are best sellers, and the first book went to audiobook format, and I'm on my way to making a living in less than a year. Seriously the best thing I've ever done for my writing. I also went the self-publishing route (I write sci-fi) and after beating my head trying to please agents and publishers, I said screw it, and went indie. Cheney, Travis Deverell, Pedro Urvi, Michael Webb and many others. Boyce, Ryan Cahill, Jacob Peppers, Andy Peloquin, J.N. Here is a short list of self-published fantasy writers who are doing amazingly well, better than most traditionally published fantasy writers, and many are now full-time writers: I'm not sure what you're writing, but at 120k I'm guessing it's fantasy or some sort of sci-fi or similar genre.
